and breed to achieve impeccable conformation, temperament and trainability
which is the trademark of the Labrador Retriever. We Microchip our
Labradors for their safety.
Here at WE Pine Labradors, we produce English style Labrador
Retrievers of black, yellow and chocolate colors approved by the AKC breed
standard. Our Labradors are researched and certified by OFA, CERF,
PENN HIP, OFEL and are sold on AKC Limited Registration as family pets.
Our Labrador pups are whelped in our home to help them gain early
socialization skills and so we can enjoy their company while they remain
with us for such a short time. Their dew claws are removed, they are
dewormed and their first vaccination will be administered before they are
introduced to their new family with a limited guarantee.
A Jack of All Trades
Labrador Retrievers are what’s described as, “A Jack of All
Trades”. They are the most versatile of all canine in the dog world.
The Labrador is best known for it’s ability to retrieve and it’s usefulness
for a variety of thankless jobs. As history would have it, the
Labrador was called on to retrieve fish that fell from hooks and were used
to haul in swimming lines or fishing nets from icy waters. Their dense
coats were thick and water repellent which allowed them to withstand extreme
conditions.
Sportsmen found that the Labrador was also adept on land as
well as sea for hunting and retrieving upland birds through thick brambles
and underbrush. Their keen eye and scenting ability has made the
Labrador Retriever invaluable in the field. During duck and goose
season, the Labrador is a trusted friend to the avid hunter who relies on
the Labrador to leave the boat or blind to swim to the downed birds and
return without swamping the boat.
Labrador Retrievers have skills that mark them as the most
registered breed in the AKC. Their ability to be our Companion is their most
endearing trait. We expect the Labrador to Guide us when our eyes
aren’t useful anymore. They keep us Safe when we are no longer
physically able to. The Labrador is used to assist with auditory
impairment as Service Dogs. The Labrador Retriever is used as Therapy
Dogs in rehabilitation centers.
In the long line of skills of the Labrador Retriever, is the job of Detection and Police Sentry Dog used to sniff for explosives and drugs to keep us safe. They Search for the dead and Rescue the living.
The performance of a Labrador is showcased during Field Trial
Events sponsored by the AKC for hunt titles. Precise location of planted
birds is the object of these trials. Show in Conformation provides a look at
the showmanship and physique of a Labrador in which everyone in the show
ring hopes for a Championship. Competition in Agility launches the
Labrador through timed obstacle courses. Obedience training finely tune the
Labrador Retriever to respond to precision commands. Canine Good Citizen
tests the Labrador to demonstrate that he is a respected member of society.
So, where did they come from? Newfoundland has a particular body of water flowing along its east coast called The Labrador Current. The St. John’s area of Newfoundland was settled mainly by Englishmen who recognized the importance of the Labrador Retriever and began to preserve the breed which was then called St. John’s dogs in the early 1800’s.
